Three men were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The arrests took place at the corner of Minors and Fortesque streets in Yeoville on Wednesday, June 18.
“The Jeppe SAPS was investigating a docket of business robbery, which was committed in the Jeppe policing precinct on June 16. They received information about the whereabouts of one suspect, who was traced to Yeoville,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS.
According to Const Malatji, the suspect was found in the company of two men and the police searched them.
“One suspect was found in possession of a firearm and he failed to produce a firearm license. The serial number was filled off,” said Const Malatji.
He said it was believed the firearm in question was used to commit a robbery in Jeppe.
“The suspects were arrested and are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm. They are also linked to a business robbery in Jeppe,” said Const Malatji.
