A security guard (37) was shot and killed during a business robbery in neighbouring Bez Valley on Tuesday last week.
Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said the guard went to a store to buy something.
“When he entered the business, he saw four armed men robbing the shop. The suspects shot him in the head,” said W/O Munyai.
The man died at the scene.
The suspects took cash and airtime, and fled with the guard’s company firearm.
Speaking about crime in the precinct, W/O Munyai said business robberies are taking place mostly in the Bez Valley, Jeppestown and Doornfontein area and are a concern for the SAPS.
He also said that during May and June there were two murders and five attempted murder cases.
“The Jeppe SAPS is increasing police visibility and patrols by deploying sectors police officers, detectives and members of support services. All sectors are patrolled 24 hours a day,” he said.
He appealed to the community to come forward with information about the incident involving the security guard.
“A murder case has been opened and we are investigating the case and following all leads,” he said.
