Co-operative plans to sustain itself

Young and old are taking part in a plant production learnership project in Ward 66.
The learnership is happening under the auspices of AGRISETA.
The group has started planting at Bambanani Gardens, situated on Bertrams Road, Bertrams.
Mr Zola Dambula, the facilitator of the project, said they have assisted the group to form a co-operative in order to sustain themselves.
“We would like to encourage other residents, particularly the youth, who have lost hope of finding employment,” said Mr Dambula.
He said the group asked him to assist in one of the many vacant stands that contributes to illegal dumping in the area.
“It is in line with the City of Johannesburg’s policy to green the environment and the majority of the group’s members are women. They receive a stipend from AGRISETA through 17 Shaft Training Centre,” said Mr Dambula. He said the training is outsourced to Tommy Phiri Labour Relations (TPLR).
“Classes are conducted at the Skills Village in Frere Road, on the Bertrams/Bez Valley border,” said Mr Dambula.
