Police officer breaks down at child’s funeral

“Barbara has been absolutely fantastic these last few days. Her commitment to her job should not be overseen."

The Illiondale community rallied together on Wednesday to support the Dabideen family as they bid farewell to two-year-old Vishandt.

Vishandt‘s tiny body was found in the family’s swimming pool on Monday evening after he went missing.

At the funeral, Sergeant Barbara Crous from the Edenvale SAPS, broke down as she watched the family lay the young boy to rest.

In a post on the Edenvale Community Facebook page, the chairperson for the Illiondale Resident’s Association (IRA), Mrs Linda McKenzie said, “What breaks my heart is that this is the side of our officers wearing blue that the community never sees.”

“Barbara has been absolutely fantastic these last few days. Her commitment to her job should not be overseen. This is all about emotion and dedication,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Sgt Crous, who is a mother herself, was at the scene when Vishandt’s body was found. Once he was pulled from the water, she initiated CPR in the hope of reviving the young boy.
