Fire fighters challenge celebrities on obstacle course
"This is merely a one percent representation of a real life rescue situation, the weight of what they do is actually 99 percent," said Mr Forbez.
Celebrities, firefighters and paramedics took on The Centrum Guardian Challenge at the SA Emergency Care (SAEC) training facility in Modderfontein on August 1.
Some of Gauteng’s top firefighters and paramedics challenged well-known personalities to a competition showcasing their training and physical abilities.
Celebrity Mr Shelton Forbez said that he admired what emergency services employees do on a daily basis.
“They do not get much recognition,” he said.
He added that many residents do not know exactly what firefighters go through they walk in their shoes.
“This is merely a one percent representation of a real life rescue situation, the weight of what they do is actually 99 percent,” said Mr Forbez.
The celebrity team consisted of Ms Hlubi Mboya, Mr Maps Maponyane, Ms Letshego Zulu, Mr Mika Stefano, Mr Mdu “Suffocate” Mabaso, Mr Mike Sharman, Mr Donald, Mr Marco Broccardo, Mr Simba Mhere, Mr Cyprian Ndlovu and Mr Shelton Forbez.
The Fastest Male ERS was Mr Tertius Engelbrecht with a time of 2:32. Mr Simba Mhere was the Fastest Male Celeb with a time of 2:46.
Ms Enie Molaetsedi was the Fastest Female ERS with a time of 6:42. Ms Hlubi Mboya achieved the Fastest Female Celeb time of 6:42.
The Emergency and Rescues Services (ERS) team won overall on the day.
“This remarkable achievement proves once again that our ERS services are ranked as one of the best in the world. As a result of the types of incidents they deal with every day, their experience is incomparable to their colleagues in most first world countries.” said Ms Natasha MacDonald, Centrum’s brand manager.
The winning team included representatives from Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Midvaal and Lanseria. There were also representatives from Netcare911, ER24 and the Gauteng Emergency Medical Services.
During July, August and September 2014, the public can help to save lives when purchasing any Centrum product.
“For every pack of Centrum sold, Centrum will contribute funding towards specialised training for the ERS. Over the past three years, the Centrum Guardian Project has provided nearly R2-million worth of training, thanks to willing and generous sponsors,” said Ms Mac Donald.
