Sex-workers are slowly becoming a rare sight on the streets Observatory.
This follows a display of unity by the Yeoville SAPS and the Frances Street committee on Monday, July 28.
Committee members and the Sector 3 manager, Const Kenneth Mukwevho, took to the streets of Observatory in an effort to discourage sex-work from taking place in the area.
Their presence in the streets seems to have been enough to discourage the sex-workers from plying their trade in the area. Observatory residents have already noticed a difference on their streets and hope things stay this way. “We are happy to not have them on the streets. It brings back the dignity of the area and we hope the Yeoville SAPS will not rest until they are totally gone,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.
Another resident, Mrs Shenaaz Nakhooda, said she has not seen the sex-workers in the last few days.
“I have not seen the sex-workers so far this week. The Yeoville SAPS and particularly the sector manager, Const Mukwevho, have to be commended on the wonderful job they are doing so far,” said Mrs Nakhooda.
The Sector 3 manager, Const Mukwevho, said he is happy with the way things are going.
“We have intensified our patrols. The communication between the residents and the police has improved. We hope to continue acting as a deterrent and keeping sex-workers off the streets,” said Const Mukwevho. @JoburgJourno
