Street names misspelt
If you search for Langrman Drive or Royal Oal Street in Kensington on your Global Positioning System (GPS), you will not find it.
These streets do, however, exist in the suburb.
Confused? So are several other residents who visited the EXPRESS’ Facebook page recently to view photographs of road names.
The EXPRESS was recently forwarded street names that were misspelt.
Langermann Drive was incorrectly spelt on two occasions. Variations included Langrman and Langeriman (with the first n upside down). Clr Da Rocha said Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) workers painted the name incorrectly the first time and when they returned to correct it, they misspelt it again. Royal Oak Street has been misspelt as Royal Oal Street.
In reply to one of the Facebook posts, Mr Rogerio Sequeira, a Kensington resident, said the workers do it on purpose. He said they think they are being funny.
“We are becoming a laughing stock,” he said.
Ms Lynne Wronsley Hillier said workers should be docked R100 for every letter they get wrong.
“They will be more careful next time,” she said.
Ms Iris Howes questioned who gives the workers the job card.
The EXPRESS forwarded an enquiry to Ms Bertha Peters-Scheepers from the JRA.
She said, “Thank you for bringing these misspelt street names to our attention. Unfortunately, when painting street names and despite quality assurance measures, errors can slip in. However, these errors are swiftly rectified when brought to our attention. Currently, the JRA is on-site rectifying these incorrect street names,” she said.
She requested that residents alert the JRA of any other inaccuracies.
