A 27-year-old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The arrest took place at the corner of Hunter and Kenmere streets in Yeoville on Saturday, July 12.
“Police officers were on a routine patrol when they noticed a man hiding in a dilapidated building and proceeded to search him. A firearm was found in his possession,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS. According to Const Malatji, the man failed to produce a license to possess the firearm.
“The man was taken to the Yeoville SAPS for detention. On further investigation, it came to light that the firearm in question was reported stolen in the Hillbrow policing precinct in June,” said Const Malatji.
He said the suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. @JoburgJourno
