Criminals target gate motors
Gate motor theft continues in the Cleveland SAPS precinct.
The Cleveland SAPS has previously urged residents to be aware of gate motor thieves.
According to Warrant Officer Marx Crouse, criminals lie down to obtain access to the gate motor. They insert a spanner underneath the gate and loosen the bolts on the motor covers.
Last week Captain Hendrik Kotze, from the Cleveland SAPS, said people spend a large sum of money on securing their properties but could do more to safeguard items such as gate motors.
“People put a clamp on the motor which is great, however do not think about the quality of the locks they use. It is no use spending so much money on the motor and the clamps, but using a lock that is not strong enough. Use a strong lock and make sure the whole motor is secure,” he said.
