The Edenvale SAPS confirmed the arrest of a 15-year-old girl this afternoon, who claimed she was kidnapped and raped over the weekend.

This comes after it was found that the schoolgirl had lied to police officers as well as her guardians regarding the incident.

“When the girl was interviewed this morning, she confessed that she had lied to the SAPS and that she had met a man on Facebook. She had spent the weekend with him,” said the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts.

He added that the girl appeared in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court this afternoon before she was released into the custody of her guardians.

“We need to thank the guardians of the young girl who approached the SAPS with information that lead to the truth being uncovered,” said Lt Col Roberts.
