The US Geological Survey has said a 4.6 magnitude earthquake hit Johannesburg in the early hours of this morning.

The earthquake occurred 12km west of Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg at an approximate depth of 10km.

On August 5 a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck outside Orkney.
