Family fun at annual event

This year’s race and walk was in celebration of Women’s Day.

The Jeppe Girls Fun Run and Walk took place on Sunday, August 10.

Kensington residents and those associated with the school were out in force. A record 1 330 participants ran or walked the eight and five kilometre routes.

Many residents made it a family outing, bringing their dogs along and enjoying some exercise.

First to cross the finish line in the eight kilometre route was Mr Siyabonga Sitshaluza, in a time 31:40. Mark Chatam finished second in a time of 31: 45 and Danya Finnegan finished third in a time of 32:45.

The winner of the five kilometre route was Ray Orchison, who took first place in a time of 19:29. Second place went to Jason Pike in a time of 23:05 and third place went to Carl Holmes in 23:06.

The first woman to finish the five kilometre race was Tatum White in a time of 25:25. She finished eighth overall for the five kilometre race.

The first woman to finish the eight kilometre race was Zoliswa Makhetha, a grade 11 pupil at Jeppe Girls. Her time was 40:05.

“We would like to thank the two main sponsors, McCarthy Toyota in Bruma and Capitec Bank. I would also like to extend my gratitude to all the staff and parents who assisted on the day, as well as Warrant Officer Crouse from the Cleveland SAPS, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and Medipracs,” said Mrs Bronwyn Costine, who organised the event. @JoburgJourno
