Elandspark School, in conjunction with Sensible Choices, hosted a youth enterprise development event on Friday, August 15.
Sensible Choices is a non-profit company that devised this business model and launched its Empowerment Tour to the rest of South Africa at Elandspark School in Bedfordview.
The Youth Enterprise Development Business Model (YEDBM) is aimed at assisting South African youth in becoming entrepreneurs. The complete programme also teaches basic skills and strengthens the emotional well-being of the youth and places them in business mentoring programmes that will enable them to become successful business people.
Over 50 corporate companies were invited to the event. Teachers were on duty early in the morning to string together a washing line of 3.5 kilometres so that on arrival, guests could hang their washing donations.
“With generous hearts and mountains of passion, principal Josua du Plessis and colleagues hung their own contribution of clothing that would be donated to eight children’s homes, housing some of our pupils,” said the Elandspark School marketing officer, Ms Louise Duvenhage.
Celebrities such as Rudolf Straueuli, the Golden Lions CEO and former Springboks attended the day.
Mr Nicho Le Roux, representing SA Ford, contributed engines, car doors and manuals towards the Vocational Training Centre, Motor Mechanics.
“Elandspark School is truly grateful for the companies reaching out to us, making the school part of their community social investment,” said Ms Duvenhage. @BedfordJourno
