Yeoville SAPS in women only road block

During the roadblocks, only women were searched

The Yeoville SAPS embarked on a women only road-block as part of the department’s Women’s Month celebrations.

The road-blocks, conducted by women officers, took place in Yeoville and City Deep on August 8, as part of the Hillbrow Cluster police precinct.

Constable Lindiwe Pile, who is part of the Social Crime Desk, said the women officers conducted the road blocks as well as can be expected.

“We had routine patrols as women officers. It was no different than when our male colleagues do the same. We were officers, doing our jobs,” said Const Pile.

She said during the road-blocks, only women were searched.

“There are perceptions that women do not get involved in crime. That is not a true reflection of the situation,” said Const Pile.

She said motorists were amazed when they came across the roadblock.

“We received as much respect as our male counterparts. Motorists understood that we had a job to do,” said Const Pile. @JoburgJourno
