Unlicensed firearms recovered

The Jeppe SAPS arrested four suspects found in possession of unlicensed firearms in separate operations recently.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said police officers went to a house in Marshall Street, Jeppestown, on September 8 after receiving information.

They searched the property and found a firearm with 13 live rounds hidden under the bed.

The serial numbers were filed off.

A man at the house was arrested.

In a separate incident, a man (38) and his girlfriend (17) were arrested in Bez Valley.

“The police were following up on information regarding an armed robbery case when they found the girl at the gate. They questioned her and she confessed that she is the suspect’s girlfriend and that she had the firearm in her possession. She gave them a revolver with three live rounds and two empty cartridges. The girl and suspect were arrested,” said W/O Munyai.

At about 10am on September 8, police officers received information about a suspect who was wanted for a murder case in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal. The information led police officers to a house in Commissioner Street in Fairview.

“They went to the house and found the suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm with its serial numbers filed off. They arrested him,” said W/O Munyai.

On September 8, police officers were patrolling when they noticed a suspicious man standing at the corner of Berea Street in City and Suburban.
