Store raises awareness of cancer

Breast Cancer is a silent killer.
In a bid to raise awareness about the disease, the simply Gorgeous Lingerie Boutique hosted an awareness campaign at the Green Valley Shopping Centre in Edenvale on October 15.
On the day, discussions about cancer were held, facilitated by specialist Surgeon Dr Sarah Rayne.
The event was part of the store’s efforts to show support to women affected by breast cancer and to also educate them about the disease.
The store, together with its partners Reach4Recovery and the Uplift project, embarked on a cancer bra drive in July. A total of 368 bras were collected and the goal is to reach 500.
Through the drive, they have collected gently used bras, mastectomy bras, camisoles, pyjamas and nightgowns donated to the indigent women who have undergone breast cancer surgery.
Some of the items will be donated to underprivilege women in rural communities.
The owner of the store, Ms Juliet Sutton, said they have a few ideas planned to ensure that the community is aware of the dangers of cancer and how they can make a difference.
