As part of their Arbour Month celebrations, 15 pupils from St Benedict’s College and one of their teachers, visited the St Peter Claver Catholic Church in Pimville, Soweto, to plant trees for the parish and community.
The trip took place on September 26 and the pupils were welcomed by the parish priest, Father (Fr) Patrick Maselwane OMI, who was appreciative of the boys’ efforts and enthusiasm.
The plants, as well as the soil used, were all donated by Ryan’s Nursery in Bedfordview.
The pupils were also treated to an informative and entertaining talk by Fr Maselwane, who gave them an in depth summary of the history of the parish as well as the surrounding areas in Soweto.
Fr Maselwane gave everyone a blessing and invited them to visit the parish any time they so wished.
