Metro invites township business owners to summit
According to the EMM's spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, the meeting is set to unlock bottle necks that are a hindrance to the growth of township businesses.
Come October 2, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) will host a Township Economic Summit aimed at revitalising economic activities in the townships.
The gathering is scheduled to take place at Tsakane’s Faranani Multi-purpose Centre and will start at 9am.
According to the EMM’s spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, the meeting is set to unlock bottle necks that are a hindrance to the growth of township businesses.
He said, “In the midst of an economy that is struggling to rapidly create jobs, entrepreneurship remains an integral element of economic growth. This is the reason the EMM is hosting the gathering.”
Mr Gadebe added that the context of the summit follows the provincial agenda to stimulate the township economy by revitalising economic activities in the townships and present opportunities that will see rapid economic growth and the maturity of entrepreneurial spirit.
“Currently, 40 of South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product is made up of entrepreneurial activities and the EMM is determined to substantially contribute to entrepreneurial development of the country,” said Mr Gadebe.
He added that topping the agenda of the summit will be a reduction of the red tape and costs of doing business to grow regional economy, among others.
Also receiving attention will be the lack of business operation facilities, such as land and space in the township.
