Pothole still unattended
The new ward 32 councillor, Clr Bongani Nkomo, has shown the NEWS numerous emails written to the regional manager of the JRA, Mr Vusi Sikhakhane, pleading to have the pothole repaired.
The massive pothole at the traffic lights leading into Blackrock Street, intersecting with Stoneridge Drive, has been a nuisance to motorists for well over six months.
Attempts to bring the pothole to the attention of the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) have proven futile.
The new ward 32 councillor, Clr Bongani Nkomo, has shown the NEWS numerous emails written to the regional manager of the JRA, Mr Vusi Sikhakhane, pleading to have the pothole repaired.
Clr Nkomo also phoned the office of the JRA persistently, but his efforts drew no results.
When asked for comment, Mr Sikhakhane said, “I have no comment.”
Mr Sikhakhane also appeared unsure of which area the pothole falls in.
He repeatedly asked if Greenstone Hill did not, in fact, fall under the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) and not the City of Johannesburg (CoJ).
Clr Nkomo began communicating with the JRA on October 8.
“After my emails were ignored, I decided to visit the JRA offices in Norwood on Friday, October 17. I was told the pothole would be sorted out by Monday. Once again, I noticed that nothing had been done and followed up on October 23,” he said.
Clr Nkomo said the JRA has since given him a new commitment to fix the pothole.
It will apparently be repaired on November 14.
