Raising awareness of childhood cancer signs

She said the money raised would be used for the patients and families affected by cancer.

More than R1-million was raised during the cupcakes for children with cancer drive on Saturday last week.

The Greenstone Shopping Centre coordinator, Mrs Sandra Griffin, said the project is a community driven project which raises awareness and funds for children with cancer.

“We do this through our love of baking cupcakes. With the help of Dr Jennifer Geel, a paediatric oncologist at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre, we made sure these childhood cancer warning signs are accurate and relevant,” said Mrs Griffin.

She said the money raised would be used for the patients and families affected by cancer.

“It will be used for medical or day-to-day living expenses,” she said.

Mrs Griffin said the project is part of the Cupcake of Hope project, which has donated to 15 other charities.
