A police officer was shot this morning when he responded to the scene of a hijacking at the intersection of Queen Street and Langermann Drive.

According to information received, an unknown number of men attempted to hijack a truck transporting cigarettes.

A shoot-out ensued between the responding officers and the suspects.

One police officer and one suspect were wounded in the shooting.

Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
