Tarentaal Village residents, Mr Andrew (83) and Mrs Jean Kennedy (82), celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, December 11.
The couple believes their five children were always the centre of their world, with days filled with ballet, eisteddfods and water polo.
Their son, Drew, is still an active water polo player, representing Western Province. Their grandchildren also excel in the sport.
For many years, the couple lived in Florida, near the lake, but moved four months ago to the Rand Aid Association-run retirement village.
Mr Kennedy said mutual respect and a sense of humour keep a marriage strong.
“Although we miss the sound of children’s laughter that could be heard from Florida Lake, we delight in the monkeys that often visit our new home, as well as the lovely grounds and caring people who are now our neighbours,” said Mrs Kennedy.
The couple married at St Anne’s Cathedral in Belgravia and has nine grandchildren.
