Bethany Home receives much-needed assistance

The I Love Kensington Association (Ilka) delivered several bags of baby clothes and baby food to Bethany Home recently.

The home is situated in Milbourne Road, Bertrams.

Bethany Home was started in 1989 as a home for 54 abused women and children in Bertrams. The home’s mission is to rehabilitate abused women and their children, who are sent to the home by the police, hospitals and other shelters. The women who come to the home usually arrive with nothing but the clothes on their backs, in a state of absolute hopelessness and helplessness.

When they come to Bethany Home, it is usually the last resort, having been subjected to physical, emotional and sexual abuse for many years. Although many of the women and children go to Bethany Home as a result of abuse from their partners, it doesn’t take long for them to realise that they have often been abused from childhood; whether physically, emotionally or just abject neglect.

Their wish list includes:

  • Toiletries for adults: roll-on deodorants, Vaseline, body lotion, toothpaste, toilet paper and sanitary pads.
  • For babies: disposable nappies, medium and large and towel nappies. Baby Formula, Nan 2 and Lactogen 2 and Nespray.
  • For the bigger children: wet wipes, bum cream, baby Panado, baby food, nestum porridge or Cerelac and purity.
  • Cleaning materials: Handy Andy, washing powder, dishwashing liquid, Domestos, bleach and floor polish (mainly clear) but also red and black.

If you would like to assist Bethany Home, or if you would like to apply to be on the ILKA charity database, contact Ilka’s charity portfolio head Mr Richard Francis on 079 283 1272.
