Members honoured with lifetime membership

Shortly afterwards the Bedfordview Probus Club was established, with Vernon at the helm.

Inyoni Creek residents, Mr Vernon and Mrs Connie Schultz, were given a lifetime membership to the Inyoni Creek Probus Club during the club’s recent meeting.

Vernon and Connie’s active association and involvement with Probus began many years ago.

In 1974, Vernon joined the Bedfordview Rotary Club.

Probus was started by Rotary in the United Kingdom and in January 1987, the first Probus Club in Gauteng was established in Sandton.

Shortly afterwards the Bedfordview Probus Club was established, with Vernon at the helm.

In 1997, the coordinating and advisory body for Probus in Southern Africa was formed to rotate around the provinces and Vernon was elected as the president of the council in 2003, when it came to Gauteng.

Finally, in July 2009, Vernon instigated getting the Inyoni Creek Probus Club established at the Rand Aid Association retirement village in Lyndhurst.

Now five years on, it is the biggest club in the country.
