Japanese Embassy joins hands with Little Eden

Mrs Lucy Slaviero, the chief executive officer for Little Eden, said that caring for those at Little Eden went beyond providing a meal and a bed to sleep in.

The Embassy of Japan recently unveiled renovated and extended day rooms at the Little Eden Elvira Rota Village in Bapsfontein.

Little Eden approached the embassy for funding to extend the two day rooms for the boys and girls with profound intellectual disability when the discomfort of the residents in the original day rooms became unavoidable.

Mrs Lucy Slaviero, the chief executive officer for Little Eden, said that caring for those at Little Eden went beyond providing a meal and a bed to sleep in.

“We evaluate and monitor the service we provide for them daily through spiritual enrichment and the values of respect, sanctity of life, love and care. We do this to ensure we continue to provide the residents with quality care, which is important for them to reach their full potential,” she said.

“It has been an honour and privilege for us to work closely with the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of South Africa on this project. We admire your strong work ethics because we too believe in the same. We are extremely grateful for your willingness to continue to assist and support Little Eden in future growth.”

Shortly after the rooms were opened, residents were moved into the renovated property.

The Minister of the Embassy of Japan, Mr Hiroaki Fujiwara, congratulated Little Eden on the work the organisation continues to do for people with intellectual disabilities.

“From the heart of the people and government of Japan, I hope the glory continues to be with this home,” said Mr Fujiwara.
