Poetry Buddies host their first poetry class of 2015
Mrs Morton invited all teachers and people who are interested in working with children, or those interested in personal development, to join the Poetry Buddies on February 14 at Khanya College, at 123 Pritchard Street, Johannesburg.
The January 31 poetry class was recently held with the class of 2015.
According to the founder of the project, Mrs Faradiba Morton, “We were joined by new members and every young citizen was filled with inspiration. We also had a pleasant visit from one of our class’s old friends, Khehla Chepape Makgato. He is a brilliant artist who presented his work on Morning Live not too long ago. The Rhodes Park Library welcomed the return of the JBF Rhodes Park Poetry Buddies and we thank them for the interest they initiate with the young citizens of our country. We are happy that the society of Bez Valley has the opportunity to see this first-hand. We welcome all the new members as we will take a journey into poetry and side-step to open doors for creative writing.”
Mrs Morton invited all teachers and people who are interested in working with children, or those interested in personal development, to join the Poetry Buddies on February 14 at Khanya College, at 123 Pritchard Street, Johannesburg, between 9am and 11am for an introduction to all the work done with the Jozi Book Fair and the JBF Poetry Buddies.
These are the poems shared at the first class of 2015:
A person – Veronick Fillies
Be loved so love will love you back
Because it’s hard to be hated and best to be loved
Take care of yourself and care will take care of you
Love your body so that it might be
Love others so that they might love you back
Love God because God is love
Life is like a light with a long journey
School is like a book with words to read till it finishes
Using magic words so that magic words can make use of you
I am a person, and I love…
I was there for you – Diana Tougma
When they turned their back on you I was there
When you were sad I came along to cheer you up
When you were lonely I came to sit with you
When there were tears on your check I wiped them away
When you were on your knees I came to pick you up
I was there for you, so I trust you’ll be there for me.
Life – Kgomotso Magadla
Life is like a journey it makes me walk on rocks
As I move through the future I begin to wonder
What life will be like for me at 50 years of democracy?
People are filled with questions that don’t faze me
Because I know what my future will hold
I will be me, true to myself and free
I have a big whole in my heart that I need to fill
I am little broken and my hearts lying around in pieces
Sometime I’m so hurt my bones feel broken
But this pain will not last forever because
I will still move on and take the journey life has to offer me
So for now I will ask life to fill this broken space
Dancing Mask – Keano Anthony
The dancing Mask on my face, has a bright light at night
In the light I see a girl moving left to right
In the centre stand a little boy walking up to her
But she asked the boy who he is?
And the boy reply with the same question
As if he was imitating me
She replied by saying, I am Imagination.
I am the one you created in your mind
I am a dream you dream
I am your friend the dreamer
I am your biggest day dream
Moving On – Isabella Kobisi
Moving on is the biggest step forward
Why should you let go if you can’t
Why walk out the door if you know you will come back
But it’s easier to forgive and let go
Moving on is not really a choice
Letting go is not an easy thing to do
The heart will be broken and left with a whole
Who am I – Dearshney Mukwevho
Who am I? I wonder sometimes?
I look at myself in the mirror, but I do not see me
I see someone other than me
I see a girl, neither fat nor thin, an eleven year old
A grade sixer, a book worm
Who’s in love with all kinds of books!
With medium length hair, she has an oval face
She is dedicated to herself and works hard
She has words to fill up a whole book
She is kind of like me, my reflection
Reflections shows the soul of Dearshney
Because, I can see me.
Me myself and I – Emily Marakalla
Iam12 years old, a bright girl. One who stands up for herself!
A girl who never gives up, I am as bright as a star
I am a future leader, a born free
One that works harder and one that shines brighter
So I carry on like a star, I let the judgments slide
I cry tears and I bleed blood, so I can feel pain
But I can also feel love, so I go on loving
Me myself and I.
