The men were attempting to steal the contents of a vehicle parked at an Edenvale filling station when they were spotted by the resident.
The acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said the community member suspected that something was untoward and alerted a passing police vehicle.
“As the officers approached the scene, the two men fled in their vehicle and a short chase ensued,” said Lt Col Roberts.
When the men were caught, one of them resisted arrest.
“One of the men bit the arresting officer as he was being placed under arrest,” said Lt Col Roberts.
He thanked the community member for alerting the police officers.
“We are seeing that more and more community members are taking notice of their surroundings and reporting suspicious activity. We want to applaud those members who take the initiative to fight crime. Without you, our jobs would be a lot more difficult,” said Lt Col Roberts.
