Man charged with perjury

A man has been arrested and charged with perjury by the Bedfordview SAPS.

According to the spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the man laid a common assault charge against a grocery store manager in Meadowdale.

“According to the suspect, the store manager refused to allow him to take a transparent plastic bag for his perishable dairy goods and instead wanted him to pay for a plastic bag. He also reported that after an argument ensued, the manager hit him with a trolley, which resulted in his one of his fingers being injured,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

The investigating officer visited the store to view the CCTV footage in order to arrest the perpetrator.

“The officer found that the trolley which injured the suspect had been pushed by his wife and not the manager,” he said.

Sgt Nhlabathi warned members of the public against making up cases as it is a serious offence.

“A lot of time and resources are put towards investing every case that is reported to the police. If people fabricate stories for whatever reason, those resources go to waste and they delay justice for people with real cases, whom we could have helped instead,” he said.
