Three men sentenced to 186 years

She said the men were found not guilty of hijacking and one count of armed robbery.

The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced three men each to 62 years in prison, following their three-year rein of terror.

The Sebenza SAPS communications officer, Constable Sharon Tsotsotso, said the men were convicted for crimes committed between 2010 and 2012.

“Nkosana Nhlapho, William Mabala and Jabu Ndlovu were faced with two counts of arm robberies, hijacking, house robbery, murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said Const Tsotsotso.

She said the men were found not guilty of hijacking and one count of armed robbery.

“For another armed robbery, they were sentenced to 15 years. For house robbery and murder, they were sentenced to 24 years. For possession of unlicensed firearms, they received five years. For possession of unlicensed ammunition, they were sentenced to three years. The suspects were sentenced to 15 years in prison each for a second house robbery,” she said.

Const Tsotsotso said the murder and house robbery was committed in Rabie Ridge in 2012.

“After entering the house, the men tied up a man and his wife. They then ransacked the house. After loading their loot, they went back and shot and killed the husband,” she said.

She added that the men were arrested in Rabie Ridge later that same year, following a car chase from Croydon with the police.

“They were apprehended when our officers were responding to a house robbery in the area. They spotted the vehicle that fitted the description given. A chase ensued and they were caught in Rabie Ridge,” she said.

Const Tsotsotso said the men were linked to other cases for which they were charged and convicted.
