Following the murder of Observatory resident, Mr Nathan Motsa, residents held a candlelight vigil last Sunday to pay tribute to him.

Organised by the Observatory Estate Residents Forum (OERF), the walk started at the corner of Judith and Klip streets and proceeded to Mr Motsa’s house.

His wife, Mrs Kate Motsa, welcomed the residents at the gate upon their arrival.

Dr Cathy Munro said the residents were distressed and upset over the killing.

“A petition was prepared for residents to sign and will be submitted to the Yeoville SAPS,” said Dr Munro.

The Yeoville SAPS has confirmed it is investigating a murder and robbery case after Mr Motsa’s murder last Thursday, shortly after 9pm.

According to to the Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, only the victim’s licensed firearm was missing when the police arrived at the scene.

“When we arrived, he was lying on the road next to his car, near the intersection of Hendon and Grafton streets. His car keys were in his hand. His cellular phone was in the car. The only thing missing was his firearm. The holster was still on the victim’s waist,” said Const Malatji.

Dr Munro said she was glad to see residents coming forward to express their outrage against crime.

“One murder is one too many. We need to get together as residents and get involved in the fight against crime. If cases are solved, and convictions are made, we don’t get to hear about it which needs to change,” she said.

Anyone with information regarding the case should call the investigating officer, Detective Colonel Moses Raphadu, on 082 850 7969.

Mr Motsa is survived by his wife and five sons.
