Kind-hearted locals donate teddy bears
"Collecting 300 hundred teddies was not easy, but I knew I had to try."
Little Eden, an organisation which cares for disabled adults and children, was visited by Mrs Dorothy and Mr Hannes Mathee and friends who collected 300 teddy bears and soft toys for the children.
The toys were handed over on June 2.
After reading an article about Little Eden, Mrs Mathee decided to request donations from her church, friends and family.
Her collection drive kicked off three months ago with the hand-over held last week.
“It is a great privilege to be here today. When I read the article, I called Little Eden and was told the children would love some soft toys,” Mrs Mathee said during her visit to the home.
“Collecting 300 teddy bears was no easy task but I knew I had to try,” said Mrs Mathee.
Ms Trudie Jordaan attends the same church as Mrs Mathee and explained that she too has a giving heart.
“Dorothy is an angel and she has rubbed off on me. She inspires me to help those in need,” said Ms Jordaan.
Mrs Mathee enjoyed a walk-about of Little Eden’s facilities and also met with the society’s public relations officer, Ms Nicollette Muthige.
She expressed gratitude to the visitors for their donations.
“We are so grateful for the donation. The children will be extremely happy,” said Ms Muthige.
Mrs Mathee was excited to see the premises and was touched by the children she saw, as making them happy is what she had set out to do.
“My husband and I always cook large amounts of food and collect clothing on a weekly basis. We then drive to different areas and hand out the items to unemployed and homeless individuals,” said Mrs Mathee.
