Locals compete sub-Saharan championships
Local dojo pummels opposition at championships.
Students of the Michael Roetz Karate Institute in Edenvale participated in the Zone 6, Sub-Saharan Africa Championships recently.
Sensei Michael Roetz was the coach for the junior cadets and children, which included Marinda and Renstia Roetz.
They received their Protea Colours for 2015 and both girls won their division in kumite.
Marinda received her Protea Colours for the fifth consecutive year. Renstia obtained her Protea Colours for the third time and also qualified to enter the Junior and Cadet World Championship in Indonesia later this year.
Simone Naidoo took third place in her kumite division and represented Karate South Africa-KSA in this championship.
Sensei Roetz is also a part of the SASCOC Coaching Commission and is the holder of an International Japan-grade 6th Dan.
