Residents catch knife-wielding thief

While the suspects were busy robbing the victim, community members charged the men and managed to apprehend one of the suspects.

One of three knife-wielding men was apprehended by Yeoville residents on July 6, shortly after 7pm.

The Yeoville SAPS communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the men threatened another man with a knife along Hopkins and Bradford streets.

The suspects robbed the victim of money and a cellular phone.

“While the suspects were busy robbing the victim, community members charged the men and managed to apprehend one of the suspects. Two managed to escape. The SAPS was called to the scene. The suspect was arrested and his knife was confiscated,” said Const Malatji.

He said the man is facing charges of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Const Malatji thanked the residents for the role they played in the arrest.
