Properties in St Anne left to deteriorate

Half built-houses need a revamp.

Half-built houses along St Anne Road in Edenvale have been left to deteriorate.

Edenvale ward councillor, Clr Heather Hart, said the property was supposed to be revamped to accommodate a filling station.

“However, the property owned by a petroleum company was refused zoning for a filling station. The conditions upon which the rezoning was approved was that St Anne Road would be closed off for the filling station. It never happened as BP South Africa (SA), did not take the rezoning matter further,” said Clr Hart.

Clr Hart’s concerns are that the property is in a poor condition and is situated in a residential area.

“The property has been in a poor condition for almost 10 years,” said Clr Hart.

She said there are certain building regulations as well as bylaws that are overlooked.

“A building has to be demolished completely, not half smashed down,” said Clr Hart.

“It angers me because city planning is suppose to create great spaces. I have a lot of respect for the officials but the job is not being done,” she said.

Clr Hart said these properties should be completed as residential homes or businesses.

“I would be happy if the properties were completed and could be used for home enterprises like the others on St Anne Road,” she said.

Clr Hart has been corresponding with the parties involved but has not been successful in obtaining the answers to what will happen to these half-built properties.

The NEWS sent a request for comment to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality as well as the official responsible for BP SA’s property portfolio.

Comment was requested by July 10.

No comment was received from either party at the time of going to print.
