The ANC Raymond Mhlaba branch in ward 118 hosted a senior citizens lunch on July 25.
The lunch was held at the Faith Centre in Malvern and was organised as part of Nelson Mandela Month.
The secretary of the Raymond Mhlaba branch, Mr John Cele, said the aim of the event was to have lunch with senior citizens during Mandela Month to remind them that they are loved and can still play an important role in their communities.
“We invited Doctor Sophie Msiza, from ward 72, to come and share what it means to be a senior citizen with our senior citizens. She also shared the role senior citizens can play within their communities,” said Mr Cele.
ANC Member of Parliament Pulani Mogotsi spoke about how she can assist senior citizens regarding social challenges as she is in the committee of social development in Parliament.
As a resident from ward 118, she said she was prepared to listen to them and assist where she could.
The Chinese community, led by Mr Lee Anderson, also attended the event and donated gifts to the senior citizens.
“We thank the Faith Centre that allowed us to utilise its premises and all those who made this event successful,” he said.
Various community members also attended the event, who enjoyed spending time with the senior citizens.
