Writers 2000 members receive awards for achievements
Writers 2000 held its annual prize giving event on July 25.

The prizes for the various categories were handed out at the event.
The group’s Annual Writing Competition categories were Fiction, Non-fiction, Poetry and Back pager.
Judges for the 2015 competition were:
Fiction – Ms Annica Foxcroft, author of books such as Ants in My Sugar and who is a partner in the company Language Works.
Non-fiction – Mr David Robbins, author and CEO of Porcupine Press.
Poetry – Professor David Medalie, from the University of Pretoria.
Back Pager – media personality and author, Ms Marion Scher. Marion is the patron of Writers 2000.
Recipients of trophies for special achievements were:
Ms Marion Scher Plate – Ms Joan Evans, for exceptional service to W2000. Ms Evans edited the group’s magazine for 13 years.
Chairman’s Cup – Mr Jake van der Wilden for excellent support of W2000 – 2013/4 Chairman.
Pen Cup – Mr Gus Coward for marked improvement/success in writing in the group.
Runner-up – Ms Heather Baiocchi.
The Carpenter Cup was jointly awarded to Ms Mary Geddes, Ms Joan Evans and Ms Nicolette Bosman for external achievement. These writers had short stories, included in the anthology 36 Hours.
Editor’s Award – Mr Duncan Stepto for support of the group’s The Write Stuff magazine.
Judy Barnes Award – Ms Dannya Baiocchi – Trophy and online writing course for a promising writer.
Ford Award – Ms Joan Evans for help behind the scenes.
This event was a highlight of the Writers 2000 year and members and judges enjoyed a lunch together as part of the function.
The groups meets at 1.30pm on the last Saturday of every month at the Inyoni Creek Clubhouse, Rand Aid Complex, at the corner of Wordsworth and Modderfontein roads.
