Joburg activities shift into high gear

According to the mayor, it is now more important than ever for the city’s strategic thrust to shift up a gear by presenting the world with an inclusive package that groups the city’s various arts and culture offerings under one umbrella.

City of Joburg (CoJ) executive mayor, Clr Parks Tau, launched the city’s heritage and tourism month on September 1.

Clr Tau said Johannesburg will be the place to be for both local residents and international travelers, as the city will host numerous cultural and entertainment activities.

As September is heritage month, the CoJ has committed itself to preserving, recognising and celebrating the uniquely South African culture and proud heritage.

The month will include a number of activities like the Arts Alive International Festival, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival and the Soweto Wine and Lifestyle Festival.

“The arts and culture scene will continue to flourish in the country’s most recognisable urban jungle for many years to come. I’m confident that Johannesburg has the experience and top-notch infrastructure needed to pull off the events,” said Clr Tau.
