ECID plans to restore the jewel of the east

"We want to revitalise Edenvale."

The director chairman of the Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID) board, Dr Paolo Agostinetto, shared his excitement about the upcoming plans in Edenvale.

“We want to revitalise Edenvale and be known as the jewel of the east again,” said Dr Agostinetto.

He said that although the ECID battled trying to revamp the CID area, the past three years since the establishment of ECID has been positive.

He explained that the ECID has plans of improving Edenvale and would like the community’s involvement. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) challenged the ECID with regards to a proposal about an urban renewal strategy for the Edenvale town centre.

The ECID will present the plan to the public and vested interest parties at a workshop on October 14.

Dr Agostinetto said residents in the area should look forward to the upcoming events. He added that Edenvale will have festival lights that will be switched on, on November 7.

A Mardi Gras will also take place on the evening.

“There will be different foods, stalls, music, bands and much more for the community to enjoy. The EMM and ECID bought the festival lights and they will be displayed for two months. It is a great opportunity to showcase Edenvale,” he said.

In addition, Dr Agostinetto said a Gold Flag initiative will be launched. He said the Gold Flag initiative includes adhering to the standards of the town. If it is sustained, a Gold Flag is earned.

“We want to achieve an almost crime-free and clean town. We want to bring back businesses and make it a pleasant town to work and live in,” said Dr Agostinetto.
