Family day raises funds

“This is the water-based Scouting. It involves the use of boats which is why it is expensive and hence the need to host fundraisers."

The Eastleigh Sea Scouts held its family fun day and fête on September 26 to raise funds.

Ms Sharon Prangle, from the Eastleigh Sea Scouts, said the day was held to ease the financial burden on parents.

“This is the water-based Scouting. It involves the use of boats which is why it is expensive and hence the need to host fundraisers,” she said.

The team performs activities like rowing, sailing and kayaking among other things.

Ms Prangley said the team competes at the Vaal Dam and Hartbeespoort Dam.

“Fundraisers assists in keeping the costs to attend events as low as possible. It also makes Scouting more accessible to all children,” she said.

She said Scouting helps to groom children for the future.

“It teaches them skills which they will use in their adult life, like leadership, team building and determination in whatever they do,” she said.

The Eastleigh Sea Scouts meet at the Edenvale Sports Grounds on Fridays at 5.30pm.
