Businessman escapes through back door

Five men, armed with firearms, entered the shop.

A Kensington businessman fled through the back door of a Queen Street shop during a robbery on Tuesday last week, shortly after 5pm.

The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said five men, armed with firearms, entered the shop.

“As they were approaching the shop owner, he ran through the back door. He went outside and called for help. He managed to stop a police van that was passing by.

“The police and community members chased the suspects. Two suspects were apprehended and cellular phones and airtime worth over R30 000 were found in the possession of one of the suspects,” said Const Mashakane.

Const Mashakane thanked the community for its role and urged residents to work with the police to fight crime.
