An Edenvale man convicted of child molestation was subsequently sentenced in the Germiston Regional Court on October 28.
The NEWS is unable to confirm the relationship of the man to the victim.
As such, and to protect the identity of the victim, the name of the convicted person will not be published until clarification is received.
The man, who is allegedly an Edenvale resident, was sentenced to serve a term of five years imprisonment, which was wholly suspended for a period of five years on condition that he is not again convicted of an offence of a sexual nature, committed during the period of suspension.
The man was further sentenced to two years correctional supervision.
He must also perform 16 hours of community service per month for the duration of his sentence.
If the man co-operates and complies with the conditions in general, his number of hours may be reduced.
He is also restricted to remain within Gauteng.
The court ordered the man’s name be registered in the National Register of Sex Offenders.
The effect of this, among other things, includes not being able to be employed to work with a child under any circumstances, not being able to become a foster parent, a care-giver or adoptive parent, kinship or temporary safe care giver of a child.
