Resident unhappy with mast and base station

“The mast and base station was put up with no notification from the service provider or the owners of the property."

A mast and base station has been described as “an eyesore” by residents of Edenglen, Edenvale.

Mr Robert Van de Coolwyk, who lives in the area, raised a number of concerns regarding the structure on Vermooten Street, Edenglen.

He said he is not against progress in the form of cellphone masts and base stations, because he is a user of a cellular phone and makes use of the internet.

He expressed concern about the design of the structure as well as the health issues.

“It should be designed to be anaesthetically pleasing and become an asset to our community’s landscape,” he said.

Mr Van de Coolwyk also objected to the manner in which the procedure had happened.

“The mast and base station was put up with no notification from the service provider or the owners of the property. The structure in its present form is ugly and an an eyesore. It has no aesthetic value. I don’t see why I must be subjected to living next to such a monstrosity,” said Mr Van De Coolwyk.

He said he has requested an impact study with regards to aesthetic and health issues.

“I find the whole process has been done in an arrogant, bombastic manner, which included a take it or leave it attitude,” he said.
