Another clean audit for Ekurhuleni

"Allow me to take this opportunity to officially announce with a great sense of pride and excitement that the City has once again received a clean audit."

The executive mayor of Ekurhuleni01, Councillor Mondli Gungubele, delivered his first council speech for 2016 on Thursday.

Clr Gungubele wished the community a prosperous New Year and urged community members to continue to work with government to deliver a better life.

“Let us continue working together to ensure that we deliver a better life to the multitudes of our people who expect the same from us,” said Clr Gungubele.

Clr Gungubele announced that the City had once again received a clean audit.

“Allow me to take this opportunity to officially announce with a great sense of pride and excitement that the City has once again received a clean audit. This is the first time in the history of this metro that we have received back-to-back clean audits.

“We made history by receiving our first clean audit a couple of years ago and now we have re-written this history by annexing the 2014/15 one – killing any myth that some might have had about our previous achievement.

“Credit must go to all the role-players; the Gauteng Provincial Government, the executive, oversight, officials and the office of the Auditor General for ensuring that we sustain a clean audit status. We knew that it was always going to a mountain to climb to maintain our cleanliness and fortunately we succeeded,” said Clr Gungubele.

He also announced that Ekurhleni was rated at the high end of the range of municipalities in the country with lower municipal debt and debit service levels, despite the bleak economic situation.

Clr Gungubele said, “Although the metro’s credit rating outlook was downgraded from Aa3.za (high grade) to the upper media grade of A1.za, Moody’s has concluded that the City reflects a large economic base, historically strong liquidity, good financial performance and a conservative approach to financial management. Indeed we remain the destination of choice for investment and doing business.”
