12 families left homeless after fire

The Chinese CPF also made a donation to the families.

The Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF), the Bedfordview SAPS and the Gift of the Givers joined hands last week to help families affected by a fire that gutted a house in Elandsfontein.

The spokesperson for the Bedfordview SAPS, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said investigations are underway into the events surrounding the fire.

He said 12 families were left homeless, including children.

“According to witnesses, a fight broke out between a couple on the night of February 20. Before the man left he threatened to burn down the house, which is home to 12 families. Fortunately there were no casualties,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

He said although investigations are underway, the police saw it fit to offer a helping hand together with other organisations.

“We noticed there are many small children on the property and we could not turn our backs as it is our obligation to serve and protect,” said W/O Nhlabathi.

The Chinese CPF also made a donation to the families.

W/O Nhlabathi said the SAPS has launched a manhunt for the suspect and is requesting the community to come forward with information that can lead to his arrest.

He said the man was from KwaZulu-Natal.
