A man in his early thirties was arrested by the Bedfordview SAPS today.
The man was nabbed for fraud and theft after producing a fake proof of payment for an online purchase.
According to spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the man defrauded a resident and stole her laptop.

“The victim had advertised a laptop for sale on Gumtree when the suspect contacted her and said he wanted to buy it. He provided her with a proof of payment and collected the laptop. It was only after giving him the laptop that she went to withdraw the money he had paid,” said WO Nhlabathi.
He said the victim was told by the bank that the proof of payment was fake and no deposit had been made into her bank account.
W/O Nhlabathi said police are working around the clock to link the man, a Zimbabwean nantional, to other cases with similar a modus operandi.
