Man face gun charges

When a man saw the SAPS, he began to run away.

A man in his late twenties was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and discharging a firearm in a municipal area.

According to the Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, the police were on a routine patrol on May 2 at about 3am when they heard a gunshot.

“The police officers headed in the direction of the sound. When a man saw the SAPS, he began to run away.

“They managed to apprehend the suspect at the corner of Fortesque and Raliegh streets. When the suspect was searched, a 9mm pistol was found in his possession and the serial number had been filed off.

“He was arrested and detained at the Yeoville SAPS,” said Const Malatji.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
