The EXPRESS awaits confirmation from the SAPS on whether Brigadier Govindsamy Mariemuthoo has been promoted.
An inquiry was sent to the SAPS and Brig Mariemuthoo’s legal representation, following reports that he had been promoted.
In March the EXPRESS reported that the Gauteng Community Safety MEC, Sizakele Nkosi Malobane, was investigating Brig Marietmuthoo, who came under fire as the Jeppe SAPS station commander from the DA for the number of leave days he had taken. The investigation was confirmed by the MEC spokesperson, Mr Thapelo Moiloa.
The investigation came after the Democratic Alliance constituency head in Johannesburg East, Clr Jack Bloom, said Brig Mariemuthoo had taken 156 leave days since his appointment in February 2014.
Clr Bloom said Brig Mariemuthoo took the leave days following his on-duty injury to a knee some time ago.
The Gauteng SAPS, through its acting provincial head of corporate communications, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, then said there was nothing wrong with Brig Mariemuthoo’s leave days.
On Tuesday, March 22, MEC Malobane revealed that the issue was under review.
She made the statement during the oral reply to Clr Bloom’s questions in the Gauteng Legislature.
