Local NGO helps the needy

The organisation tries to change as little as possible in the charities in the communities.

The Mama’s Alliance CSI Agency currently helps 26 various charities across South Africa, one of which is based in Edenvale.

It represents community-born organisations that have been established to better the community.

Its vision is to promote a sustainable and long-time commitment between corporates and charities.

Ms Nthabiseng Phaleka, the marketing and communications officer, said the office facilitates interaction between charities and corporates at no cost to either group.

“Not only is this done to ensure the process runs smoothly, it is also done to unburden the charities and let them focus on their goals. It gives the charities the opportunity to do what they are good at,” said Ms Phaleka.

The Mama’s organisation performs this service for charities in need of financial aid and all the funds go directly to the charity. The Edenvale office does not handle any of the funds and every cent goes to the charities.

The Mama’s Alliance CSI Agency is part of an organisation with its parent organisation based in the Netherlands, called the Children’s Funds Mama’s. Its mission is to link the commitment of ordinary people in the Netherlands and ordinary people in South Africa, and as a result, creates room for inspiring MAMA power in action – daily care and a fair future for the most disadvantaged children.

By promoting long term investment from corporates, the impact of the commitment is more visible than a once-off donation.

Ms Phaleka said some of the core pillars include transparency, along with the involvement of all relevant parties at all time to ensure the organisation is non-prescriptive.

The organisation tries to change as little as possible in the charities in the communities.

“The grassroot organisations, mostly managed by women, are formed out of community needs,” said Ms Phaleka.

“The community knows what they need, we try to encourage growth and avoid telling charities what to do.”

“Ultimately, the aim is to improve the lives of children all over South Africa and give them a chance at a better life,” she said.

“If you educate and empower a women, you are educating and empowering a nation.”
