
A 20-year-old man was arrested for robbery in Yeoville, after a school pupil was robbed at about 8am on May 3.
The man was arrested at the corner of Innes and Observatory streets.
The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the girl was walking to school when she was accosted by the man who threatened her with a knife.
“He took her cellular phone and fled. A security guard witnessed the robbery and chased the man. The guard managed to apprehend the suspect. Police officers were called and the suspect was arrested and detained at the Yeoville SAPS,” said Const Malatji.
The cellular phone was recovered.
“We thank the members of the community who helped with the arrest and we urge them to continue working with the police to ensure that criminals are brought to book,” said Const Malatji.
