Locals help drought-stricken farmers

"The drought has caused a lot of damage, especially in the farming communities."

Zendai Development, Malaka Civils, Highveld Works Modderfontein and the Modderfontein Reserve came together to help the drought-stricken areas in the Free State with animal feed.

Mr Fournie Venter, the estate manager for Zendai Development, said the organisations felt it was necessary to help out in the areas that were most affected by the drought.

“Management decided to join with other organisations in order to bring relief where it is needed the most.

“The drought has caused a lot of damage, especially in the farming communities. Drought affects our communities and our environment in many different ways.

‘Everything in the environment is connected, just like everything in our communities is connected. Drought affects our lives in many different ways because water is such an important part of so many of our activities. Animals become vulnerable when there is drought because there is not enough food to feed them, hence we decided to be involved in this initiative,” said Mr Venter.

Mr Venter said they donated 200 bales of animal feed, which was handed over to the Free State Agricultural Corporation.

“The Free State Agricultural Corporation will distribute the animal feed to the most affected areas in the Free State.
